Mephistopheles Beckons Me

Schlick-Faust
Faust and Wagner on an Easter Walk – Gustav Schlick
An excusable nuisance has made refuge by my chamber.
The creature pesters, mocks, and taunts me into anger.
I do not remember ever sending for its invitation,
But one day long lost to shadows it arrived in unfamiliar configuration.
It was reduced in size and grandeur, but still held my gross curiosity.
Something so peculiar from who knows where did solicit my comradery.
It’s most fearsome power of all is how in a growl all my displeasure is displaced.
I sense my dread transfigure into dreariness; I loose my will to lambaste.
